Cure Found for Arthritis Pain Dear Ms. Geller: I had arthritis pain and swelling so bad, I was being treated monthly with a pain medication. It was so bad, just to walk, to go for a ride in a car would be extremely painful, sometimes even with medication the pain would still be unbearable. You learn to live with some pain. April 1998, my daughter brought me a sample of you emu oil and said a co-worker had told her of her grandmother and how she wanted to die from the pain of arthritis. She gave her grandmother a sample of emu and she was now going to church, shopping and other things she had to discontinue due to the pain. I started rubbing the emu oil in and within a couple days I noticed that the pain was gone and that the stiffness was also gone. June 1998, I went for my regular doctor's visit and my doctor ask if I needed my arthritis medicine and I said, "no, I think I have found a cure for arthritis, and he said "what is it?" Emu oil. I've been using it for awhile and I feel great. He said he heard a rumor about emu but he didn't have anything on it. He told me to continue using the emu oil. Ms. Geller, I've given samples to aunts, church members and friends, who have all said that the "EMU OIL IS DOING A GREAT JOB ON THEIR ARTHRITIS PAIN AND SWELLING." So, thank you and your emu oil for all the wonderful things that I am now able to do. Sincerely, Thomas C. Jones

Athletes and Emu Oil - A New Way to Relieve Pain, Strain, and Stiffness Courtesy of The American Emu Association DALLAS, TEXAS --- Jeff Berthelsen, a 26-year-old triathlete, has had chronic knee problems since high school. After intensive training sessions, using emu oil on his knees helps alleviate pain and stiffness. Ronald Thomas, a senior triathlete, also uses emu oil to maintain flexibility and for back pain after competition. Members of the American Emu Association have had similar reports from other athletes across the nation and from collegiate and professional sports teams, as well. "We're finding more athletes using emu-based creams and emu oil as part of their training regimen and for rehabilitation," said Neil Williams, president of the AEA. "And because emu oil is relatively new in the marketplace, most people are surprised about how effective it is." Doug Atkinson, a team trainer with the National Basketball Association for 30 years, said he learned about the anti-inflammatory properties of emu oil in 1992. One of the Dallas Mavericks, Fat Lever, had undergone surgery on both knees and after two years in rehabilitation, was still unable to play because of swelling and inflammation. "Within six weeks after using emu oil, the inflammation and swelling was gone and Lever was able to practice and play without limitation," said Atkinson, who has retired and now owns a wellness firm that markets emu-based products. One of the trainer's emu oil products is used throughout the NBA, by NFL teams and major league baseball teams as well by as high school and college athletes. "Emu oil acts as a transdermal carrier, delivering relief directly to the muscle or joint," Atkinson said, "which also makes it effective for arthritis pain." Allen Hurst, an emu producer, was a trainer in the National Football League for 22 years before retiring to his ranch. "We were always getting new products to try," he said, "and because we were dealing with well-conditioned athletes, if a product worked, it was extremely effective." Hurst found that emu oil was beneficial in the training room because it penetrated the skin rapidly, as proven in laboratory studies. And when used with another product such as an analgesic balm it enhanced the performance of that product. "It doesn't take much oil to accomplish the relief you need," said the retired trainer, "and it also effective in wound care."

Emu Oil and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Reprinted with permission from Emu Today & Tomorrow 1-888-474-6397 toll-free (580) 628-2933 Several folks have reported relief from carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms of the burning and tingling numbness in the fingers, with applications of emu oil to the wrist area. Since some individuals suffer permanent nerve damage from carpal tunnel syndrome, it is worth some degree of caution when recommending emu oil for treatment. Carpal tunnel syndrome is a repetitive stress injury reported at an increasing rate in the U.S. work force. Anyone who does repetitive work with their hands and arms is susceptible. Musicians, cooks, writers, typists and others complain of finger stiffness in the morning, a weakened grip and pain and numbness in the hands and wrists. The syndrome occurs when the tendons in the wrist become inflamed after some type of aggravation such as typing or writing. These tendons pass between the bones and ligaments of the palm of the hand in a constricted area called a tunnel. Treatment includes resting the hands using splints. Oral and injected anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen are also common treatments. Surgery may be used to expand the tunnel and reduce the pressure on the nerve that is causing the pain. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke reports that 1% of individuals with this syndrome develop permanent injury. The majority recover completely and can avoid re-injury by changing the way they do repetitive movements, the frequency with which they do the movements, and the amount of time they rest between periods when they perform repetitive movements. An uncommon but very effective treatment is to take vitamins B6 and B2. Doctors noticed that carpal tunnel syndrome often occurred in women on birth control pills that had high estrogen doses (these products are no longer available). Pregnant women also have an increased risk for carpal tunnel syndrome. And finally, diabetics are also at increased risk. All these conditions are associated with an increased need for vitamin B6. The dose of vitamin B6 is 200 to 300 mg per day in divided doses. Vitamin B2 is necessary to convert vitamin B6 into its active form. This treatment should be tried for three months; if there is no symptom relief by then, vitamin B6 may not be for you. In summary: Emu oil may act in an anti-inflammatory manner to relieve the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome similar to oral anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin and Motrin. Vitamins B6 and B2 can be taken for 3 months at a daily dose of 300 mg for each vitamin. These should be taken in 100 mg. doses at each meal. If, after a trial of 3 months there is no benefit from the use of emu oil and the B vitamins, you should seek other therapies since permanent nerve damage may occur in some people. Emu Oil and Diaper Rash Most diaper rash is caused by a yeast or bacterial infection, two organisms that thrive in a moist, warm environment. The area covered by the diaper becomes covered with small pimple-like bumps that may become scaly or crusty. In severe cases the sores ooze and have an unpleasant odor. At some time, almost all babies will develop some sort of diaper rash. When Susan first became pregnant, both her mom and mom-in-law advised her on preventative care. "They told me to keep the baby changed, how to clean the bottom and to use petroleum jelly." Her pediatrician told her to forget the petroleum jelly because the baby's skin needed to breathe. "When Amy had her first case of diaper rash, it was pretty standard and I did what I had been told by the doctor. I kept her clean, it seemed like I changed her all the time. But it was getting worse and she was crying every time she urinated. I called the doctor, but she told me not to put anything on it, to continue to change her and that it would clear up. By then it was horrific, her little bottom was red and I swear it was peeling. I even had her on a pad instead of in diapers and when she would urinate, she'd stop and cry then urinate some more. I told the pediatrician how bad it was, but she just repeated what she had told me, keep her clean and dry. I felt like she was being impatient with me, like 'oh I don't know'. This was my first baby and I felt unsure of myself." At that time, Susan and Neil had to attend a weekend corporate retreat. The men would attend some meetings, play golf and the ladies would play bridge and get to know one another. Grandmom Ellen (Susan's mom) kept Amy the two days they were gone. "The first thing she said when she saw Amy's bottom was "What have you been putting on it?" Susan became defensive, "I told her nothing; that the doctor said not to use anything, that it would clear up on it's own. I stressed that she was to follow the doctor's orders. Mom just looked at me over her glasses and asked if it was getting better or worse. I admitted it was worse, but, like an idiot, continued to stress what the doctor had said." The minute they pulled out of the driveway I had the baby butt naked and put emu oil all over her little bottom". Reports Grandmom Ellen, She cried at first, because of the contact, but settled down. The oil soothed her. I put it on her every time I changed her." Ellen uses a variety of emu oil products and keeps emu oil in the medicine cabinet. When Susan and Neil picked her up on Sunday evening, Susan asked how the rash was. She had to look when she was told it was gone and expressed amazement that it could clear up so quickly. Grandmom confessed to using the emu oil. Susan was angry, but not at Grandmom- at the doctor for letting the baby suffer when it would be so easy to heal the rash up. Since then she has changed pediatricians, but has decided to follow Mom's advice and keep emu oil in the medicine cabinet along with a variety of emu oil based baby products. Arthritis - Fighting the Vicious Circle By Myra Charleston There are over a hundred different disorders that can affect the joint. The two most common are deteriorating joint disease, aka osteoarthritis , and inflamed joint disease, aka rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis is a condition wherein the cartilage lining a joint begins to deteriorate, allowing the bones to rub together. Movement becomes painful and restricted, which in turn can result in the gradual wasting away of unused muscles. Osteoarthritis usually affects the larger, weight-bearing joints such as the hips, knees and spine, but can occur in other joints as well. Rheumatoid arthritis occurs when the immune system begins to attack the body, causing a chronic inflammation of the joints. In this disease, the thin membrane surrounding the joint becomes inflamed and swollen. This in turn leads to inflammation of other parts of the affected joint. Eventually the bones weaken and in severe cases the tissue may eventually be destroyed. Rheumatoid arthritis can occur in any joint, but is most common in the small joints of the hands and feet, such as fingers and toes. The most common treatments for these diseases are NSAIDs, Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. NSAID's treat the symptoms, but do nothing to cure the disease. They are useful in relieving discomfort, but research done at Stanford University's Department of Medicine indicates they may have long-term, negative impact on the patient. The most frequent and severe side effect is the gastric problems in the stomach and digestive system. This results in more medication being used to relieve those symptoms. A vicious circle ensues of ingesting NSAID's and then more medicine to combat the side effects of the NSAID's. Is there a way to break out of this circle? Maybe. A growing number of North Americans, including professional sports teams, chiropractors and massage therapists, report excellent results from emu oil and emu oil based sports- /arthritis rubs in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. While emu oil is currently being sold on anecdotal properties, there is clinical evidence that it contains a high level of linolenic acid, a substance known to temporarily ease the discomfort of muscle and joint pain. In 1995, Dr. Thom Leahey of the Arthritis Clinic in Ardmore, Oklahoma, did a 2 week study on hands afflicted with arthritis. The results indicated that emu oil may substantially reduce the pain caused by arthritis. Dr. Leahey theorizes that the oil may be more beneficial to those suffering from the early stages of the disease, before the cartilage is destroyed completely. Dr. Peter Ghosh, Director of Research, Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital, relates that laboratory experiments have consistently confirmed the therapeutic value of emu oil for arthritis sufferers. "This is not witchcraft. These findings are supported by scientific evidence," Ghosh said."It offers the best relief ever for victims of this crippling disease." Dr. Peter Ghosh, Director of Research, Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital, relates that laboratory experiments have consistently confirmed the therapeutic value of emu oil for arthritis sufferers. "This is not witchcraft. These findings are supported by scientific evidence," Ghosh said."It offers the best relief ever for victims of this crippling disease." Another Australian, Dr. G. R. Hobday (Emu Oil - A Clinical Appraisal of this Natural and Long Used Product) culminates a 10 year clinical study by reporting that emu oil usage results in "reduced pain, swelling, and stiffness most evident where the joint is close to the skin surface, such as hands, feet, knees and elbows." The report goes on to say that there is "Significant benefit to recent bruising and muscle pain where injury is relatively superficial." It should be noted that pain levels vary from one person to another. Add this to the variation in emu oil absorption due to skin types, and determining dosage is not always easy. A general rule is that you should apply the oil three to four times a day for three months. If at the end of that time you feel it is not beneficial, discontinue use. EMU OIL EASES THE PAIN OF PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY by Anne Geller He couldn't even stand to have the fan blowing on his legs as he sits looking out the window or watching TV. At night he would sleep--when he was able--with his legs extended over the end of the bed so nothing would touch his legs. His wife moved to the guestroom because the tiniest movement in the bed would be agonizing for him. Being a construction foreman on a commercial jobsite, he was forced to take indefinite medical leave as he was no longer able to climb stairs or "walk" the job to supervise his men. Even driving was becoming a problem. What we are describing here for those unfamiliar with the disease is the pain caused by peripheral neuropathy. "Peripheral neuropathy" is damage to the peripheral nerves which lead from the brain and spinal cord throughout the body. In this disease, slow damage to the nerves is manifested in a tingling sensation in the feet or hands, spreading slowly to the trunk. Numbness may develop or the skin may become very sensitive and, as in this case, there may be extreme pain. I met his wife at a trade show I was doing in Maryland. She stopped at my booth to find out about this "stuff," Emu Oil. As I was telling her about the marvels of this oil she happened to say, "You don't have anything that helps diabetes do you?" I told her diabetes is an insidious disease with many, many side effects. I explained that I couldn't do anything about her husband's diabetes, but I possibly could help make him more comfortable. I explained to her essentials fatty acids ("EFA's") and the hyper-oxygenation of the Emu Oil, that after applying the oil to his legs it not only would increase the circulation to his legs, but also would help to diminish some of the pain in his legs. She said at this point she would try anything and purchased a bottle. When she arrived home with the oil her husband agreed to let her try the oil saying, "It couldn't hurt to try." He sat still and suffered through the almost unbearable pain while she gently massaged the oil into his legs. The results were almost immediate. The pain started to diminish and some feeling started to return to his feet. After about a week, he began sleeping at night, and walking became easier. When the construction foreman's wife called me, to order another bottle, she called it "The Miracle Oil." After she got through telling me about all the progress her husband had made, we had a good cry together over the phone. It has now been about six months and things keep getting better and better. His primary care physician is amazed as well as his podiatrist. He is even talking about going back to work!

That Emu Stuff Really Works! November 30, 1998 A-! Billing Service 6200 Elmhurst Street, Suite B District Heights, MD 20747 Thunder Ridge 9217 Center Street Manassas, VA 20110 Dear Anne Geller: This letter is in regards to your emu oil and the wonders it does for people with arthritis. February of 1998, I received a contract to work for one of your companies to do Medical Billing. After a couple of months a young lady and I were having a conversation regarding her grandmother's and my father's arthritis. She explained her grandmother was now going to church and shopping due to emu oil. I asked, where can I get this emu oil? She informed me that I should go to Barbara Rosen for a sample. Barbara gave me a sample and I took it to my dad. The next week my dad called to say, "Sharon, that emu stuff you gave me really works, I have been walking around without my cane and no pain." I thought he was kidding but he said "NO" I'm very serious. "Can you get some more?" I told him "yes, I guess I can." Barbara referred us to your company. Ann, my father went to his doctor in June and his doctor wanted to know if he needed his monthly arthritis medicine and he informed him "no I don't need it anymore, I've been using emu oil and I'm doing fine without any arthritis medicine." His doctor said he had heard a rumor about emu oil, but didn't have anything on it, but he told my dad to continue using it if it was making him feel better. Ann, my father believes emu oil has really been a blessing to him and the other people he has given the emu oil. So, on behalf of my father who is no longer complaining of pain and myself, I thank you for emu oil and continue the good work that your company is doing. Sincerely, SHARON F. WRIGHT
